Moenia and Belanova, an overdose of electropop falls on Chicago

On the heels of their new hit “Clasico,” Moenia begins its US tour alongside Belanova. Arriving to  Rosemont Theater on May 18, the tour officially launches this week in Seattle, WA. The modern old schoolers of electronic pop ballads and dance tracks will also travel to California, Colorado, Missouri, and New York. Often hailed as one of the most important artists in Mexican electronic music, Moenia has taken synth-pop en Español to a new level offering a sound distinctive from other Latin music artists of their time.

With a sound and style comparable to groups like Erasure, Pet Shop Boys and Depeche Mode, Moenia brought a much-needed perspective on music coming out of Latin America during the 90’s. A distinction that launched them to fame.

Moenia has released a total of nine full-length albums and four releases that are remix and compilation albums. Their hits Estabas Ahi” and No Puedo Estar Sin Ti” became club anthems and their cover album Stereo Hits played tribute to other pop, rock and electronic/pop music legends like Duncan Dhu, Los Prisioneros, Caifanes, Alaska y Dinarama and Los Amantes de Lola. Another popular track was their tribute to Jose Jose’sVolkan” on the album “Un Tributo” which featured other notable artists like Cafe Tacvba, Aleks Syntek, Leonardo de Lozanne from Fobia, Motolov, Julieta Venegas and others.

Joining Moeia is Belanova. This band with roots in Mexican electropop has been working on it’s newest full-length release for a couple years now and have so far released the songs “Casate Conmigo” and “Nada es Igual,” with accompanying videos. The new album, titled “Viaje al Centro del Corazon,” will mark the sixth studio album for the band. So far,  ten of the tracks have been announced.

Belanova’s rise to fame during the 2000’s brought forth hits like “Me Pregunto,” “Suele Pasar,” and “Aun Asi Te Vas.” The band has received a score of awards throughout its career, including several Grammy’s and MTV and Billboard Awards.

Collectively and individually, the members of Belanova have also had the pleasure of collaborating with several artists, including Aleks Syntek, Jay De La Cueva, Sussie 4 and PXNDX. They recorded a cover version of Caifanes’ “Viento” on the second tribute album to the band. Belanova is made up of Denisse Guerrero (lead vocals), Edgar Huerta (keyboards, programming), and Ricardo “Richie” Arreola (bass, guitar). We look forward to seeing them on stage at the Rosemont Theater on May 18 with Moenia.
