Exclusive Video Premiere: The Art of Nurturing Optimism In ‘Asi Lo Quiero’ by Carlos Sé

Whether or not you are ready, Carlos Sé (La Maravilla Projects) is. Today, the East Los Angeles’ artist debuts his E.P. Ready or Not, Here I Come and Gozamos is honored to exclusively premiere the video for the debut single,  Asi Lo Quiero.

For Asi Lo Quiero,  commissioned Boyle-Heights artist Rene Pacheco of “The Commons” a.k.a “Tropa Magica” to do the animation. The song speaks on corrupt politics, prejudice and the mishandling of data, which “represents the obvious problems within our society pertaining to world issues.”

Carlos Sé – “Asi Lo Quiero”

Ready or Not, Here I Come includes six original feel-good reggae tracks in both English and Spanish and is available today on all digital platforms. The album is produced by Nicolas Curiel (Profesor Galactico, The Paranoias) and Moises Baquiero (Ximena Sariñana,Twanguero, Los Abandoned).

Sé’s lyricism contemplates a perspective growing up a roquero surrounded by cholos. On the song No Quiero Bici he describes the struggles of growing up in an environment where you’re sometimes forced to make a choice about which path you’ll follow simply by picking up a bicycle. As he declares, ‘no quiero bici / I don’t want a bicycle’  is declaring his independence by choosing his own style, his own mode of transport – the skateboard, which leads into the phrase, “Yo quiero patinar / I want to skate.”

Sé is obviously also choosing his own style, and a uniquely carved path in music, as the sweet reggae sounds reflect a desire to nurture optimism, despite the turmoil and chaos. There’s a sense of empowerment without the need for it to be fueled by hate, instead making “it known that through positivity we can accomplish self-happiness and in doing so we can finally bring about the major change our world so sorely needs.”
