Latinx rights group Mijente has rallied community activists from across the nation to build a 15,000-foot banner wall around the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, this week. Putting a spin on Trump’s call for a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, the group, in collaboration with The Ruckus Society, Iraq Veterans Against the War, The Other 98%, Working Families Party, community members and families, are painting sections of a 15,000-foot banner stenciled to resemble a wall. The protestors will encircle the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland with the banner this Wednesday, July 20th.
Their mission is to “wall off the hatred and the xenophobia that’s represented by the Republican candidate to the presidency Donald Trump,” explained Chicago-based Mijente activist Tania Unzueta, in a video for their crowdfunding campaign, which has already surpassed its goal of $15,000.
