The Playlist: Cupid’s Lament

In case you haven’t noticed yet, today is Valentine’s Day. Look around, if you’re at work, school or really any public place, you’re bound to be surrounded in a sea of red sweaters, glittery red heart cut-outs and little cardboard cupids. If the onslaught of mushy feelings and unusual amount of PDA is enough to make you sick, don’t worry, you’re not alone. We’ve put together some of our favorite songs to help us get through the day, maybe they’ll help you too. Put them on your iPod and throw on your headphones to drown out the sound of that lovey dovey couple smacking lips on next to you on the CTA.

Fuck You by Cee Lo Green

Maybe February 14th brings up painful memories of that evil wench that did you wrong. Well, “forget” her with this soulful number, performed with the help of Gwyneth Paltrow and some Muppets at last night’s Grammy awards.

Gonna Get Along Without You Now by She & Him

Another great song to get over that douchebag or biotch. It’s hard not to sing the simple lyrics along with Zooey Deschanel’s sweet voice and still feel bad. Even this video brings you back to sunnier days.

Runaway by Kanye West

Let’s face it, sometimes we’re the douchebags that ruin our own relationships. So we might as well take our hometown boy’s advice and have a toast to ourselves.

Romance Is Boring by Los Campesinos!

Sometimes even those of us in committed relationships are as miserable as those that are lovelorn. If the thought of sitting across a dinner table staring into the eyes of your partner makes you cringe, crank this one to 11.

I Would Die 4 U by Mariachi El Bronx

We couldn’t end our playlist with a depressing song, so this cover of a Prince song by the alter-ego of an L.A. hardcore punk band is perfect to bring the playlist home. Mariachi El Bronx (and the little purple one, of course) make longing for someone cool, and not so damn pathetic.
