Austin is currently in the midst of it’s most craziest week of the year, the annual South by Southwest festival of music and technology, which celebrates 26 years. According to the festival’s history section: “Austin’s eclectic music scene goes back to early in the city’s history (from Mexican, German and colonial origins) and encompasses a wide variety of music including country, folk, jazz, blues and rock. Central Austin boasts more original music nightclubs in a concentrated area than any other city in the world.” The multitude of artists performing can be overwhelming so we’ve put together a Gozamos must see list of showcases where you can find the hottest Latinos performances of the festival.
New Sound Movimiento March 13 at Karma Lounge 7:00pm
La Santa Cecilia, Piñata Protest, Gaby Moreno, The Copper Gamins, Churchwood, Hickoids and The Beaumonts
Austin’s New Sound Movimiento showcase is an excellent selection of Latin-Alternative music combined with a decent dose of rock and roll. La Santa Cecilia, from Los Angeles, has been on a roll after their recent signing to Universal. We even saw photos of them collaborating on new material with the legendary Elvis Costello! The Copper Gamins’ music is excellent in their interpretation of muddy/garage rock, with a lo-fi’s techniques always surrounding their recordings. Gaby Moreno, who’s been successfully promoting her 2012 album “Postales” will also be present in the festival along with San Antonio’s very own Piñata Protest, whose music is a unique blend between Tejano and punk rock music. You can’t miss this showcase!
Sounds of Spain March 14 at Brush Square Park, East Tent 1:00 p.m
Supersubmarina, Tulsa, I Am Dive, Pajaro, Track Dogs and Cuchillo
We are lucky to have in SXSW 2013 Supersubmarina and Tulsa, two of the most outstanding bands in the prolific Spanish indie-rock scene. These six bands with different sounds and influences will show how foreign music genres like rock, country, psychedelia and folk are perceived in Spain, a country with a very interesting music legacy.

LALALATIN! SHOWCASE March 15 at Flamingo Cantina, 9:00 p.m
Liquits, Pamela Rodriguez, Gang Do Eletro, Agrupación Cariño, Bonde Do Role
Los Liquits is one of the most recommended Mexican bands confirmed in the festival, and as they have proved, they achieve in their concerts a surprising electric atmosphere. Besides, we’re looking forward to a full band performance (fingers crossed) from Peru’s divine Pamela Rodriguez who captured our hearts in New York during her acoustic performance at S.O.B.’s.
