Pitchfork 2013 Preview & Mixtape – Day 3

Sunday is arguably the most dance-friendly of the three days, so if you’re going all weekend try to save some energy for the third day. This is also the day with the much conflict of interest between seeing one artists or another, which you can look at as a positive or negative, unavoidable victory or loss. Either way, it’s going to be a helluva good time.

Who to see on Sunday, Day 3

The day starts off with a difficult decision for hometown people  — Chicago natives DJ Rashad (1:00, Blue) and Tree (1:00, Green) play simultaneously. Foxygen sneaks in on the Red stage at 1:45, but another tough choice will be between Killer Mike (2:30, Green) vs. Blood Orange (2:50, Blue). You must ask yourself if you want to get pumped up with some truth about American life or get blown away with guitar and songwriting skillzz from an integral part of Testicicles.

I have to suggest Yo La Tengo on the Green stage at 4:15, since I’ve seen them multiple times and they are always amazing live, especially if they lay on the non-acoustic songs. If it’s not your style, Sky Ferreira will grace the Blue stage with her presence at 4:45, so be prepared for some unabashed 90s throwback pop realness. And because his seemingly effortless and beautiful jazz and upbeat R&B are so, SO great, I would suggest forgoing another band to get a good spot for Toro y Moi performing at the Green stage at 6:15.

The last handful of acts are the Sophie’s Choices of the festival; it’s cake vs. pie vs. everything else good. You could, theoretically, catch a little slice of everyone, but MIA (7:25, Red) might probably prove to be more explosive (though Yeezy producer Evian Christ does have some sick tracks). Glass Candy (7:45, Blue) has the unfortunate placement between MIA and the final acts, but if you’re anti-R. Kelly (which is possible, even if the man is a Chicago institution), who I hope will be bananas, catching at least the end of Glass Candy will be the perfect apertif to intoxicate your dance glands just in time for TNGHT at 8:45 on the Blue stage.
