Opening Night – 27th Chicago Latino Film Festival

To celebrate the 27th consecutive year, the Chicago Latino Film Festival brought a taste of Buenos Aires to Chicago this past Friday. AMC River East 21, 322 E Illinois, screened the 2010 film from Argentina entitled No Return/Sin Retorno. Director Miguel Cohan introduced his work and later spoke with Gozamos about his overall experience. No Return is a thriller about mistaken identity and the effects on people’s lives. The cost of dishonesty is a high bill to pay as No Return escalates to the final confrontation. While Cohan can still work on pacing for his first endeavor, the strong cast made up for it through their outstanding performances for example star Leonardo Sparaglia brought dept to his character. Leonardo  and Miguel partied with the audience afterwards at an exclusive cocktail reception across the street located at the River East Art Center, 435 E Illinois St. Limitless trays of empanadas circled the room along with guests helping themselves to buffet style salad, pasta and desserts. To drink, the crowd sipped on Quilmes beer and Alamos malbec to the late hour. The evening kicked it up a notch with a tango show and singers belting out heartbreak that would make Eva Peron turn pink. Be sure to check out the next screening of the film on Sunday, April 3, 8:45pm at Landmark Century Centre Cinema
