  1. There is a similar place on intersection of45th street and Ashland ave. called El Internatinoal , the grocery store section is quant , but the Taqueria in the back of the place is absolutely to die for , it is certainly worth the treck into the middle of the meat packing district as the food is soo delicious that i find myself taking people there just so that hey can experience the deliciousness as well

  3. I live walking distance from La Unica, and was delighted to see your review! What got me super excited is that they have tamales from all over Latin America — I’ve bought Mexican, Honduran and Cuban — in the freezers along the back wall. The problem for me was that there were no instructions (not even in Spanish). I just stuck them in the toaster oven and hoped for the best! If I was brave enough to ask for instructions in my very broken Spanish, maybe I would have had better results…

  5. I’m glad you all like this place. It seems so few people know about it. I (and some of my family members) take the trip over there every couple months to pick up things that are hard to come by in the ‘burbs. Morcilla chorizo, good quality olive oil, and yes, replenish our collection of saint candles (there’s a shelving unit in the back by the restaurant that houses all these santos).

  7. Thanks to this article, I decided to go and pick up some sandwiches for lunch with friends. It was quite a hit! I especially liked my large cafe con leche, very sweet and lots of milk!
