La Gringa Extended Through January 28 (UrbanTheater Company)

UrbanTheater Company has announced a three-week extension of the Midwest premiere of La Gringa, the Obie Award-winning comedy by Carmen Rivera. The initial run concluded December 11; the extension begins January 12 and continues through January 28.

Directed by Miranda Gonzalez and produced by UrbanTheater Company and Mike Oquendo of Mikey O Productions, La Gringa features Sofia Tew as “María,” Frank Davila as “Manolo,” Nydia Castillo as “Norma,” Phil Camacho as “Victor,” NK Gutiérrez as “Iris” and Anthony DeJesus as “Monchi.”

La Gringa will be performed at UrbanTheater Company, 2620 W. Division St. in Chicago from January 12-January 28, 2017, with performances on Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are $10-$20 and are available at www.urbantheaterchicago.org

The play, which has been running continuously Off-Broadway since 1996, making it the longest-running Spanish play in Off-Broadway history, completely sold out its initial run in Chicago. The run time is two hours with a 10-minute intermission and all performances are in English.
