Father’s Day Festivities

This Sunday, June 20th, is Father’s Day. Father’s Day has been celebrated in the United States since the early 1900s, but no one seems to agree on who actually started the holiday. There are varying accounts on who had the original idea, but it is a fact that Lyndon B. Johnson made Father’s Day an official holiday in 1966. Unlike Mother’s Day, flowers and greeting cards are not the main gifts given to our paternal parents. No, no Father’s Day slings bad-ass power tools, electronics, and other manly toys. These, however, are not your only options to show dad you love him. Here are some great places offering special deals to help you make this Father’s day an extra-awesome one.
In honor of Brazil month at Gozamos, how about dinner at Carnivale this Sunday? Dad’s will be given in $15 bounceback coupon. This way, you’ll have an excuse to join him again for lunch or dinner. Next time, it will be his treat!

If Spanish tapas sounds like a good option and kids are in tow, head over to Tapas Valencia in Chicago. Between 4 and 6 p.m. kids eat free! The kiddie menu includes, burgers, chicken fingers, fries, and pasta with a choice of sauces.

For us older kids, Luxbar is offering an affordable Father’s Day option. The Burger ‘n Beer DeLUX will get you a Lux Lager and a Signature Lux Royale Burger for just $10 (excluding tax and tip). They are open 8 a.m.-12 a.m. on Sundays.
Nautical adventures await on Odyssey Cruises! $74.95/person (kids are 1/2 price) buys you 2 hours on Lake Michigan before the beautiful Chicago skyline, a cocktail, an elegant brunch, and live entertainment. If dinner is what you’d prefer, Odyssey is offering a steak dinner. For $79.95/person you can choose between a 10 oz. Filet Mignon, Seafood Cannelloni Gratinee, or Roasted Chicken Santa Cruz. Dessert, live music, and a cocktail will also be provided.

For an artsy, outdoor option, check out the 17th Annual Artists of the Wall Festival in Loyola Park. This festival endorses public-created wall murals. If you want to do some of the art yourself, you’ll need to register, but if you’re just there to observe and play, it’s free for you and your family.

For a theatrical option, you’ll get a kick out of Second City’s 50th Annual Revue at the Theater on the Lake. Tickets are just $17.50! Laugh yourselves silly in this open air theater and enjoy the beautiful weather we’ve been having. Visit the Chicago Park District’s website for more information.
