Pau Donés, el cantautor detrás de Jarabe de Palo, es un romántico. Y además le encanta demostrarlo. Él no es de esas personas reservadas a las que les da miedo contar a sus amigos sus historietas de amor, sino que hace lo contrario. Él se aprovecha de ello y además de encandilar a las mujeres que van a verle en concierto, compone canciones llenas de historias personales y son esos juegos de palabras que alegran las canciones de Jarabe. En esta nueva gira americana, Piano y Voz, Pau ha vuelto a reciclar su obra pero esta vez de una manera mucho más íntima, enseñando al espectador su aspecto más pasional, gracioso, cursi y romántico.
En un escenario que acentuaba esa sensación hogareña—con un sofá largo, un piano negro y un par de lámparas que proyectaban una luz tenue—Pau no le tembló el pulso a la hora de explicar las experiencias amorosas detrás de canciones que le han hecho famoso en España, Italia y Sudamérica. El concierto empezó con “Soñar despierto” del disco Depende. Esta canción, como todas las que tocó en Chicago, fueron mostradas en su versión más desnuda, con los elegantes arreglos de piano que hacían de colchón sobre la poderosa y afilada voz de Pau Donés. Algunas interpretaciones fueron muy similares a las canciones originales, solamente cambiando la base eléctrica por el piano o la guitarra acústica, como en “Déjame Vivir”, “Grita” y “Palabras que se esconden”. Cuando Donés cogió la guitarra y cantó los primeros versos de “La Flaca” el público la reconoció de inmediato, y sin duda fue el gran momento de la noche. Para terminar sorprendieron con una versión jazzy de “Agua”, mucho más bailable y de ritmo animado, pero sin la delicadeza que hace poderosa esa canción.
Con Piano y Voz Pau, Donés ha creado un concepto que le sirve para dar otro giro a sus éxitos pasados y otras canciones que encajan a la perfección con el show. Pau dijo que habrá nuevo disco de Jarabe de Palo en octubre. Pau Dones, the songwriter behind Jarabe de Palo, is a romantic. And he likes to show it. In this new U.S tour called Piano y Voz, Pau has again recycled his past works but this time in a much more intimate way, showing the audience his most passionate, funny, cheesy and romantic facet.
On a cozy, homey stage—complete with a long sofa, a black piano and a couple of lamps that cast a dim light—Pau’s heart did not miss a beat as he divulged his experiences of love behind the songs that made him famous in Spain, Italy and South America. He even talked to the audience, blew kisses, tossed roses, winked at the girls near the stage and even threw out to the audience a letter he wrote to his ex-girlfriend.
The concert began with “Soñar Despierto” from the album Depende. This song, like all the ones played in Chicago, was performed in a most pure manner with elegant piano arrangements by Jaime Burgos that beautifully supported the powerful, sharp voice of Pau Donés. العب روليت اون لاين Some of the interpretations—like “Déjame vivir”, “Grita” and “Palabras que se esconden”—were very similar to the studio versions minus exchanging the electric production for Burgos’ piano or Donés’ acoustic guitar. When Donés picked up his guitar and sang the first verse of “La Flaca” the audience recognized it immediately, and it was certainly the big moment of the night. In the last song of the show the band surprised the audience with a jazzy version of “Agua,” which was much more danceable and with a groove-paced but without the finesse that makes that song powerful.
With the Piano y Voz tour, Pau Donés has created a performative concept that allows him to put a twist on past hits and other songs that fit perfectly with the idea of the show. Pau said that there will be a new Jarabe de Palo album in October. Hopefully they will come back to Chicago with the full-band and confirm that they can still keep making personal songs that are full of profound feeling.
