Code for Community at Migra Map Hack Day!

This Sunday, coders, designers, and nontechies are rolling up their sleeves and getting down to work at the second Migra Map Hack Day. From 10am to 4pm, participants will help make Migra Map the go-to resource for tracking ICE raids.

UIC computer science student Guillermo Rojas reached out to Migra Map creators United We Dream and Latino Rebels about revamping the map to meet the needs of everyday users and reflect the increasing ICE raids under the current administration. Guillermo is now leading the effort to add new features, make the map searchable, and populate it with data from immigration rights groups and FOIA-requested ICE data.

Volunteers have been working on enhancing the map at ChiHackNight on Tuesday nights at Merchandise Mart and at last Sunday’s first Migra Map hack session.

To participate in this Sunday’s Migra Map Hack Day, interested coders, designers, and nontechies must register as space is limited.
