For 25 years, the Latin American Cinemateca of Los Angeles (LACLA) has been championing and screening feature and short films by LatinX filmmakers from all over the Americas. For our Nueva Onda section, which showcases young and experimental Latin narratives from up-and-coming filmmakers, we’re delighted to partner up with the Hola Mexico Film Festival’s Tomorrow’s Filmmakers Today initiative.
The program is curated by Guido Segal – Screenwriter and Program Manager at LACLA, known for his film critiques and screenwriting, he has worked on multiple projects in a screenwriting capacity. Using his talents, L.A based Segal offers his screenwriting prowess through his work as a professor. Collaborator – Diana Luna – Director of Tomorrow’s Filmmakers Today, a nonprofit initiative in partnership with Hola Mexico Film Festival. This program brings her two strongest passions together: providing programs that have a professional impact and helping Latino filmmakers create a community with an entrepreneurial spirit.
This year’s theme is Fantasías y Sueños (Fantasies and Dreams). These two amazing one-hour long programs offer a glimpse into today’s zeitgeist, where fresh, authentic voices reflect on what’s going on and the world they would love to see. They are heartfelt narratives, different in aesthetics and scope, but all of them have one thing in common: imagination as a powerful tool to transcend our reality and strive towards a more egalitarian and free existence.

Latin American Cinemateca of Los Angeles (LACLA) is a California non-profit organization dedicated to promoting cultural exchange through film by screening classic and contemporary films from Latin America and by USA Latinas and Latinos. LACLA also supports the film and media efforts of Los Angeles inner-city middle and high school students with its annual student film festival.
