Taking a trip out of the city and into one of Chicago’s suburbs wouldn’t be such a bad thing if your going to visit one of my favorite stores: Half Price Books! With six locations and counting, you’re bound to find something that interests you in their stacks. Usually if something sounds too good to be true it is, but not in this case. You’re going to get great books for very little money and what’s not to love about that?
Half Price Books has everything from comic books, toys, video games, records, CDs and DVDs, with new and used stock starting at $3 and climbing to $10. Items that are used and being resold are of great quality, guaranteed! There is even a children’s section packed with books, DVDs, kids’ sing-along CDs and coloring books. It kept my three year old entertained- an almost impossible to accomplish task.
I love biographies so when I saw their section of, yes, brand new bios for only $7 I was double checking the price tags! I was finding the same books at the Big B’s (Borders and Barnes and Noble) for double the price. I love the big guys and their bells and whistles as much as the next bookworm, but if you don’t have a lot to spend and are looking for a lot of great books that are affordable, Half Price is definitely worth exploring.
At Half Price Books, you can pick up the latest magazine you can’t live with out or a new movie for date night. Camp out and take a seat with a handful of books from the travel, history, religious, poetry, horror or craft section. You’ll also find best sellers all over the stores propped up on tables. From art books to welding books, Catholic books, to Wicca books, decadent cookbooks to diet books- this store is heaven sent! There are even great craft projects in a box for you and your kids as well as great gift ideas all over the store (check out their stationary section with crazy stationary, postcards and all kinds of journals). Items that are not being sold are marked as low as $.50. You can’t beat those prices!
Besides the low prices and smell of fresh ink on new books, Half Price Books will take all your old books, DVDs, comic books, magazines, CDs and a few other odds and ends in return for cash or store credit! What could be better than that? Take my word for it: there is most certainly something for everyone at Half Price Books.
