We had a chance to chat with the amazing Xenia Rubinos, an experimental Cuban-Puerto Rican singer whose highly original and totally unpredictable compositions caught our ear and captured our spirit at last year’s LAMC.
Rubinos’ music was really was quite unlike anything else we’d heard before – fragments of children’s songs, noises beautiful and strange, bilingual lyrics and sounds, punk touches, all woven into layered yet surprisingly austere and elegant compositions.
Rubinos and collaborator Marco Buccelli will perform in Chicago as part of an International Women’s Day celebration which also involves a wide variety of local dance, music and visual artists.
Xenia Rubinos will perform at Q4/multikulti on March 9.
