Despite how often we interview artists, us music journalists get star-struck too. My moment came when I had to talk to the sweet Mexican pop-rock starlet Carla Morrison at the Latin Alternative Music Conference. Though Morrison’s known for her heavily intoxicating ballads, she is also an affably-spirited and politically-informed artist. We got to talk about her latest collaborative music project, a video titled “Un Derecho de Nacimiento” which features Natalia Lafourcade amongst other well-recognized Latino artists. An avid supporter of the Yo Soy 132 student movement in Mexico, I also learned that as warm as she is, Morrison is also deeply informed, moved and inspired by those forming part of the movements that are changing the face of ‘nuestra patrias’.
