Want to learn a new language and learn about a new Latin American culture? Gozamos is offering fun, informative, and low-cost classes in Portuguese starting June 15th. Broaden your linguistic horizons and learn about Brazil, the only Portuguese-speaking country in Latin America. Brazil has a rich history and culture that we don’t hear about enough. Join Gozamos as we share this rich part of Latino culture.
About the Class
Have you ever wanted to know what the lyrics of a Bossa Nova song are about? Or how life would be on the tropical and largest country in South America–that surprisingly doesn’t speak Spanish? So come and learn Portuguese! We designed an 8-week course to introduce students with little or no knowledge to the Portuguese-speaking world. The course will teach basic communication skills—understanding, speaking, reading, and writing—and, at the same time, provide exposure to the culture and civilization of Brazil through films, music, food, and dance. The class will be divided into two sessions, where the first one will be dedicated to grammar and conversation, and the second to music, food, and movies about Brazil, its way of life, and culture. By the end of the course, you should be able to invite a girl for dinner, a boy to the movies, to prepare a drink called caipirinha, and to easily communicate at a basic level using the vocabulary and tools practiced in class. Come and join us!

About the Instructor: Soraia de Oliveira
Soraia graduated from one of Brazil’s most prestigious universities with a BA in Arts Management and worked with various media and arts-based projects before reinventing herself as a language teacher. After having rewarding experiences teaching English as a Second Language in Brazil, Soraia used those techniques to teach Portuguese in the United States. In the five years she has been teaching, her students have included sociology and anthropology graduate students from the University of Chicago and Northwestern University, as well as businessmen, doctors, and many others with interests in or special ties to Brazil. In addition to English and Portuguese, Soraia also speaks French and Italian. Art was her first love, but languages are her greatest passion! Besides the arts and languages, playing the guitar and singing are also part of her interests in life.
I can't wait! I've always wanted to take Portuguese classes!
If I weren't already doing a million things I would SOOOO be all over this. This is really awesome.
This is going to be a great class, I just know it!
What a nice opportunity to learn a new language but also to be expose to the various facet that the culture has to offer through music, film, food and dance.
