Our favorite animated band embarked on tour this past fall, and instead of just going from city to city performing their current catalog of music, they decided to create fifteen new tracks for us as well. They are available here: http://thefall.gorillaz.com/. To acquire these musical gems, you just need to give them your email address. Happy 2011 from Murdoc and the gang!
This inventive tour soundtrack by Gorillaz was made using these twenty iPad apps: Speak It!, SoundyThingie, Mugician, Solo Synth, Synth, Funk Box, Gliss, AmpliTube, Xenon, iElectribe, BS-16i, M3000 HD, Cleartune, iOrgel HD, Olsynth, StudioMiniXI, BassLine, Harmonizer, Dub Siren Pro and Moog Filatronnd. Talk about taking advantage of your “down time” on the road. For good measure they used these additional instruments: Korg Vocoder, Ukelele, Microkorg, Omnichord, Moog Voyager, Melodica, Guitar, Piano, Korg Monotron. El Techie would be proud!
The Fall was made on the road with tracks produced across the country. Two tracks were recorded here in Chicago, including one of my faves Shy Town. Gorillaz get it. And they want us to be a part of it. Why else would they give us, literally hand to us fifteen beautiful songs from their travels up and down the East and West Coast, through our own backyard here on the Third Coast and up through Canada…A Tour Soundtrack, they’re billing it. But don’t worry, we’re not footing the bill.
Since their original masterpiece all the way to Plastic Beach released earlier this year and every album in between, Gorillaz have given us gems hidden under musical innovation and evolution through animation and instrumentation, and when Gorillaz give us gold like this, we say thank you!
