Last weekend, I did the unthinkable. I bowled my first game in a bowling league. At least I think it’s called a game. Or is it a bowling match? Bowling bout? See, I’m not much of a bowler. My bowling experience before last weekend was pretty much limited to the cosmic variety back before I was old enough to get into bars. The black lights and blaring Top 40 tunes were like my nightclub training wheels. I wasn’t too focused on how many pins I was knocking down each frame.
Fast forward to 2010 and my best friend Jen is looking for new members for her bowling team. I have to admit, at first I was hesitant to say yes because in my head all I could picture were Homer Simpson’s Pin Pals, The Dude, Walter and Donny. Not exactly the type of people I could picture myself spending one Saturday night a month with. But my husband and I joined The Powerstrokes in the hopes of good times with friends. And last Saturday night, that’s exactly what we had.
It didn’t matter that the only ball I could manage to successfully heave down the lane was a child’s size eight pound ball with finger holes that were just a tad too tight for my adult fingers. Or that in the tenth frame, our collective team score was 200 points less than the team we were playing. Oh, and did I mention that the opposing team was playing with only three bowlers instead of four? I don’t foresee us taking home any trophies at the end of the season. But will we have fun? Definitely.
