As I write this, Pandora shuffles through Radiohead, The Beatles, Vampire Weekend and Yeasayer while two of this year’s featured designers at Fleurotica 2011 work their creative magic to perfect their pieces…in my living room no less. Art runs rampant in this household, and it will be running rampant all over Garfield Park Conservatory tonight at Fleurotica 2011. The designers in my living room, whom I love dearly, will show two magnificent dresses this year, one-upping themsleves from last year, keeping pace with the growth Fleurotica sees itself embodying from year to year, growing from a volunteer-run program last year, to this year’s thoughtful execution, to next year’s appearance on Project Runway.
My 7 year old niece runs upstairs to our apartment to say goodnight, sees one of the dresses in progress, stops in her tracks and exclaims, “Ooooooooh, pretty!”
Fleurotica will bring out your inner child and your sophisticated side all in one fantastically whimsical swoop, so don’t be surprised when you find yourself oooohing and aaaahing all over the outfits made of flowers, leaves, sticks and every creative tidbit nature has to offer. I can barely contain myself from doing so long enough to write this preview for y’all.
For those of you who don’t know, Fleurotica is the next big thing (if you believe in next big anythings) in not only fashion but floral design and horticulture as well. One of the most majestic gems in all of Chicago and the largest conservatory in the nation, Garfield Park Conservatory hosts the event that is sure to take you on a journey into the rapidly growing art form of floral design all while refreshing your memory on what makes the world of fashion so special.
From my living room, to my desk, to Garfield Park Conservatory. Consider yourself cordially invited…
