Xavier "Xavi" Luis Burgos is a Boricua/Dominicano of the diaspora who has lived half of his life in New York City and the other half in Chicago. His professional experience includes work in community-building, educational development, and advocacy journalism. He has developed and coordinated youth programs and social marketing campaigns; spearheaded efforts for housing equity and civic engagement, reinvigorated an anti-gentrification endeavor in Humboldt Park, and lead a successful student movement for a Latina/o Cultural & Resource Center at Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU). His journalism credits include being Editor and Chief Designer for Que Ondee Sola magazine, columnist for La Voz del Paseo Boricua newspaper, and guest writer for Claridad newspaper. He has also served as guest speaker for numerous conferences, community events, and college courses. Xavi holds a B.A. from NEIU in Sociology with a minor in Latino/Latin American Studies and is pursuing a Ph.D. in Educational Policy Studies. His latest project is developing a national publication focused on the Boricua diaspora.
