Now that the NFL Championship Sunday dust has settled and our Super Bowl matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens is set for February 3rd, let’s take advantage of the two week break before the Super Bowl hoopla kicks into high gear and prepare for the 2013 Chicago White Sox campaign, shall we?
I know that it feels like just yesterday we were at the end of #OrangeOctober with the San Francisco Giants winning the World Series and hoisting the Commissioner’s Trophy, but here we are in January preparing for another baseball season with the hopes of raising a banner of our own. And that’s the beauty of a new season, in any sport. Every team in the league has the unexplained, equivocated expectation of winning it all. Every fan’s team across the country has started the season undefeated, and your Chicago White Sox are undefeated as of now, and they have tickets going on sale Thursday. Get em while they’re hot, and then head over to the Palmer House Hilton for Sox Fest on Friday to celebrate.
And hot off the presses on the pages of Gozamos, you can look forward to a
regular feature with Mauricio Rubio on Latino up and comers within the White Sox system, ticket giveaways, tailgating parties, and so much more.
Plus, every Sunday, they’ll be sporting my favorite Sox uniforms to date: throwbacks from the 1983 season, a season that saw them win the American League West title by 20 games and marked Chicago’s first baseball postseason appearance since 1959, not to mention it was the year of my birth. So, they’ve got that going for them…which is nice.
In 1983, winning ugly came early but not often enough for a team boasting the AL Cy Young winner in LaMarr Hoyt, AL Rookie of the Year Ron Kittle, and AL Manager of the Year Tony LaRussa. Magic was in the making, but the season was cut short against a Cal Ripken, Jr. led Baltimore Orioles team that went on to win it all. It wouldn’t be until 2005 that the White Sox would win it all themselves, but maybe the 2013 White Sox can recreate some magic from the 1983 and 2005 clubs combined.
You’ve got to be there to find out what kind of magic can happen. I can smell the hot dogs, fresh cut grass, taste the cold beer, and feel the sun shining on my face already…
