“In the music video I wanted to convey that love has no color, no language, and knows no borders. ” – Marisol La Brava
Captivating audiences with her stellar sounds and vocals, in addition to her vibrant on-stage fashion style and performance, Marisol La Brava of A Flor De Piel premieres “Windy City Love.” It’s her newest single featuring Lester Rey who in addition to singing, helps co-produce this summer love song. The song is now available on all digital platforms.
In an interview with Radio One Chicago, Marisol said she wants people to understand the song and video’s ultimate message. “It’s a message of inclusivity. It’s a love song, but hopefully the message is conveyed that it encompasses all kinds of love. Love for everyone.”
Born and raised on Chicago’s southside, Marisol is a musician who embraces the art of collaboration, especially when it comes to other Chicago-based artists, in this case the inimitable Lester Rey.
“While the topic may sound like a “boy-meets-girl” story, to me it means more than that. It is really a song about my love for our beautiful city (Chicago) and the love between souls. Given the current political climate I wanted to show different cultures coming together in love as well as show the diversity of our city,” she explains via email.
The video, which includes cameos by Jose Alfredo and Quinto Imperio, takes place in Humboldt Park… yes, just before Chance the Snapper made an appearance. The story captures glimpses of the city, interspersed with moments of love between people, whether as a couple, as friends or as artists creating something together. And isn’t that what life should be all about, love?
A Flor De Piel’s next performance is this weekend at Chalk Howard Street, followed by Tacos y Tamales Fest.
Lester Rey has a new single out with Nino Augustine – Amigo – and his next performance is one of poetry as he forms part of the Chicago Poetry Block Party on July 27.
