Lowriding At Soldier Field

The 2010 Street Low Magazine Tour came to the Midwest and was hosted by the Chicago SuperShow. There were car clubs from Chicago, Elgin, Waukegan, and others from states like Kentucky, Wisconsin and California.

Among the crowd were the following car clubs, to name a few: The South Side Cruisers, Majestics, Originals, Viejitos, Rollers Only, Team CCE, 3 Times Stronger, Chingones, The Outfit and Cruising in Style.

As the brightness of the sun battled the brightness of the shiny chrome, the crowd enjoyed strolling through many aisles of custom lowrider cars, while listening to music from artists like Kinto Sol, Juan Zarate, Frost DJs Scratch and Bobby D, to name a few. Many posed to take pictures with their favorite cars and the beautiful Lowrider models who showed off their sexiest poses atop the hood of numerous cars.

At this “air” show, the cars weren’t flying in the Chicago sky, but different car clubs entered their vehicles into the single and double pump competition. Fans saw rear bumpers hitting the ground, vehicle’s front end facing a vertical direction and headlights shattering from the impact of the single and double pump. Cars, trucks, blazers and wagons hopped between 20 inches to 105 inches in the air.

The following are a some of the cars that entered the Single Pump Competition:

• The South Side Cruisers out of Chicago entered a 1963 Chevy Impala, which hopped 60 inches.
• Cruisin’ In Style out of Waukegan entered a 1980 Chevy Malibu, which hopped 35 inches.
• Psychos out of Elgin entered a 1964 Chevy Impala, which hopped 21 inches.
• Psychos out of Elgin also entered a 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass, which hopped 36 inches.
• The South Side Cruisers also entered a 1985 Buick Regal, which hopped 80 inches.
• The South Side Cruisers entered a 1964 Chevy Impala Wagon (double pump), which hopped 78 inches.

Although most owners of these custom Lowider cars are adults, among the crowd was a younger generation of Lowriders from the South Side Cruisers Bike Club with their ages ranging from 6 to 17.They guarantee that the culture will live on in future generations.
