Telling a student to “go back to Mexico” is inexcusable. The question at the moment is whether the teacher should be allowed to return to the classroom.
What happens if I get angry you ask? I not only get relegated to the “angry Latina” stereotype, but also the “overly emotional woman” stereotype. This creates a standardized and easy rationale for people, mostly men, to ignore anything I say, and write me off by either selecting one of these stereotypes, or better yet, both.

My first racist experience in Arizona was when my mother told me about the rude call she had received. Like any other good Latina Mom, mine jumped in and volunteered for my first campaign here. My family has lived the ups and downs of the American Dream and has, for the most part, been successful.
