Defund Hate: Dismantling the Detention and Deportation Machine
Presented by the UIC Latino Cultural Center and Detention Watch Network
Join us for a communal conversation on the nationwide efforts to end the ongoing expansion of the U.S. immigration detention system. The current administration is pushing to exponentially increase funds for the detention centers across the country, where deaths this year have reached an all time high.
•What does the detention and deportation machine in Illinois look like?
•How does detention and deportation impact our campus and communities?
•How do communities respond to this dehumanizing system?
Discussion led by Gabriela Marquez-Benitez and Barbara Suarez Galeano, organizers with the Detention Watch Network.
When: Wednesday, November 29, 2017
Time: 3:00pm to 4:30pm
