Wayward Productions immerses itself in the underworld of biker culture to create an environmental reinterpretation of this classic Shakespearean Tragi-History. This production, while respecting the original text and language, intertwines the hierarchies of both royalty and gang culture in this brutal, clever and fierce ninety minute performance. Directed by Mary Arrchie Theater Producing Director Carlo Lorenzo Garcia (Red Light Winter, Our Bad Magnet) Richard III will be a theatrical experience unlike any other.
Of the production, Wayward Artistic Director Brittany Ellis says, “I chose Richard because of Richard. He’s the quintessential anti-hero and I was dazzled by how equally funny and terrifying he is. The relevant and exciting element I couldn’t stop thinking of was the late sixties to mid seventies, when our men came back from Vietnam as villains. These gangs are viciously loyal, and will do anything for their “kingdom.” In my vision of recreating this “life after war”, and specifically relating the text and hierarchy to biker culture, I believe our production will transfer to the stage effortlessly.”
