Sunday, September 18th marks the 2nd annual World Music Festival Global Peace Picnic commemorating United Nations International Day of Peace at the Humboldt Park Boat House Great Lawn. Co-presented with the Chicago Park District, The 606, and United Nations Association – Greater Chicago Chapter.
This year we’ve partnered with The 606 to create A Walk with Peace preceeding the picnic. It’s is a day of family-friendly activities including instrument making, peace procession, music, food and craft vendors, information tables, and more.
Schedule along The 606
11am to 12:30pm – Instrument Making Stations by SRBCC at Milwaukee/Leavitt Park and Ridgeway Trailhead
Join the musical processions!
12:30pm to 2pm – Peace Processions to the 606 Humboldt Overlook leaving Ridgeway/Bloomingdale and Milwaukee/Leavitt at 12:30 pm.
12:30pm – The SRBCC-lead simultaneous processions include Los Hermanos del Tambor (Plena) with Paper Maché Cabezudos (leaving from Ridgeway) & The Four Star Brass Band (New Orleans Second Line), (leaving from Milwaukee and Leavitt).
1:00pm Funkadesi-lead procession to the World Music Fest leaves from Humboldt Blvd. and Bloomingdale (Indian bhangra, Bollywood, Indian folk — with reggae, funk, and Afro-Caribbean grooves).
