Illinois is in a State of Emergency.

Illinois is entering its second year without a budget, and our communities, particularly communities of color, are under attack. Governor Rauner and his billionaire partners continue to receive massive tax breaks and are protected from paying their fair share, taking childcare away from Black mothers, citizenship classes away from immigrants, essential services away from seniors and those living with disabilities, and financial aid away from students. This is unacceptable.

On June 30th, community members and organizations from across the city and state come together to sound the alarm and declare that our communities are under attack. Inspired by the work of Assata’s Daughters, BYP 100, and others working against police violence we will ride the trains with our neighbors to educate others and expose the Governor’s choice to protect billionaires like–Griffin, Easterbrook, Duffy, and Dimon–over our communities. We will unite and converge upon the Thompson Center to make clear that we will continue to fight until this state-sanctioned violence comes to an end, and we have a budget that values people over profits.

June 30th State of Emergency is sponsored by Action Now, Brighton Park Neighborhood Council, Community Renewal Society, Enlace Chicago, Grassroots Collaborative, Chicago Teachers Union, ONE Northside, Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Chicago, Chicago Coalition for the Homeless, Access Living, AIDS Foundation of Chicago, SEIU Healthcare Illinois & Indiana
