Sones de México Ensemble visits the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts at the College of Lake County for a pair of performances.
We’ll present a full two-set concert performance beginning at 8pm in the Studio Theater.. Tickets are required.
Earlier that evening we’ll present our FREE lecture/demo program “Beyond the Music, A Musical Geography of Mexico” at 6:30pm in the Center’s Black Box Theater. “Beyond the Music” is a lecture/demo that involves all the members of Sones de Mexico Ensemble with many of their musical instruments. Audiences learn about what to listen for in the major regional styles, including Tapatíos, Jarochos, Regios, Chilangos, and Calentanos, and experience a guided tour through Mexico’s folk music regions with live demonstrations by the Ensemble.
Beyond the Music is supported in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
