Early September 16th, several families in Pilsen awoke to a nightmare – several acts of arson had been committed and garages, cars, and entire buildings had been burned. One community member was killed and twenty-five others were displaced by the 7 fires. Some of the families are still looking for housing, many lost valuable belongings, and all of them are adjusting to a new life.
The Pilsen community has unified to help the families affected by this tragic situation but they still need our help. Thanks to the generosity of the National Mexican Art Museum, Wintrust Pilsen Bank, community residents, local businesses, and many community organizations we have been able to organize a fundraiser event to collect more funds for the families.
Join us at the National Mexican Art Museum on November 4th from 7 pm – 11pm for an evening of music, cultura, and delicious food to help the families affected by this fire. Local artists and musicians are also collaborating to make this solidarity event possible (details on entertainment and sponsors to follow).
