It has been an honored tradition in Europe to celebrate the music of Franz Schubert on the anniversary of his birth, January 31, 1797. PianoForte Foundation has brought this tradition to Chicago for the past 8 years, with every celebration drawing larger audiences. This year’s event will call forth a marathon of music making from a variety of chamber ensembles and soloists in at least three simultaneous performance halls in the historic Fine Arts Building, the perfect environment to recreate the atmosphere of Franz Schubert’s legendary soirees.
Each year the event features the Schubert Café, offering Viennese coffee and treats from Julius Meinl, as well as wine and refreshments sponsored by a variety of other local businesses. Guests are invited to attend a performance, take a break to visit the café or one of the many galleries in the Fine Arts Building, and then come back for more live music.
