Public Newsroom #29: Investigative Reporting in Spanish Language

August 3 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Our August 3rd #PublicNewsroom will explore the various challenges and opportunities of doing Spanish-language investigative reporting in Chicago. This is the first in a series of workshops dedicated to exploring the local Spanish-language media landscape. This week, we are excited to have a panel of media practitioners from all over the city, moderated by Maricela Garcia and including Stephanie Manriquez of Yollocalli, Jessica Fernandez of Univision, Franky Piña of El Beisman, Jesus del Toro of La Raza, and Rocio Santos of Vocalo, who will share their experiences working in various newsrooms. Attendees will also be asked to participate in breakout groups where they will map the Spanish-language media ecosystem, identify gaps in coverage and design potential collaborations.

The panel will be moderated by Maricela García, the chief executive officer of the youth and family education nonprofit Gads Hill Center.

**Note this will NOT be at Build Coffee at 6100 S Blackstone**

Join us at Yollocalli’s main space in Little Village (located on the second floor of the Boys and Girls Club at 2801 S Ridgeway Ave, Chicago, IL 60623) from 6-8PM. This week’s Public Newsroom will be conducted in both Spanish and English. If you can’t join the conversation there will be open documents to collect further public comment.

Our weekly Public Newsroom workshop series is always free and always open to the public thanks to your support. Youth and communities interested in storytelling, media, art and civic engagement are encouraged to attend.
