Prison Abolition: A Discussion for the Legal Community (& free CLE!)

January 21, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Have you heard that the National Lawyers Guild recently passed a resolution supporting prison abolition? If you’re concerned, confused, or just excited, please join the National Lawyers Guild Chicago Next Gen Committee for a teach-in on prison abolition on January 21, 2016! In addition to providing information about mass incarceration, the prison industrial complex, and abolition as a concept, we will be facilitating a community discussion about what it means for us as legal professionals to support the abolition of prisons. NLG Executive Director (and former member of the Sylvia Rivera Law Project) Pooja Gehi will be in town to help set up the conversation.

This event is free and open to the public. A link to RSVP will be posted shortly. CLE credit will be provided–details coming soon! (We hope to provide at least 1 hour of professional responsibility credit to attorneys licensed in Illinois.)

Materials will be made available soon, but until then, please feel free to read the Resolution Supporting the Abolition of Prisons: https://www.nlg.org/sites/default/files/Resolution%20Supporting%20the%20Abolition%20of%20Prisons%20REV.pdf
