Pilsen Community Discussion on Rent Control

Pilsen has seen a surge of evictions and displacement of residents due to rising rents and property taxes. Approximately 10,000 Pilsen residents have moved out, 5,000 are evictions. Whether you are a tenant facing a 30 day notice of eviction, a homeowner or small business under constant pressure to sell by developers or if you are concerned about out of control rising rents, please attend our community discussion on Rent Control and Rent Stabilization Thursday September 7th at Dvorak Park 1119 w Cullerton from 6pm to 8pm.

We will be joined by Dr. Janet Smith from University of Illinois at Chicago, Dr. Winifred Curran from DePaul University, State Rep. Theresa Mah (D-2) and keynote speaker State Rep. Will Guzzardi (D-39) who will discuss HB2430 which seeks to lift the current ban on rent control in the State of Illinois. We will also have Lawyer Committee for Better Housing, Metropolitan Tenants Organization and Cook County Commissioner Jesus Garcia office to provide assistance and resources for people facing evictions and harassment from landlords and developers.

Event is free and open to the public, childcare will be provided and is accessible to people with disabilities.
