Ever since his wife was burned in a car crash, Dr. Robert Ledgard (Antonio Banderas), an eminent plastic surgeon, has been obsessed with creating a new skin with which he could have saved her. After twelve years, he manages to cultivate a skin that is sensitive, yet a real shield against all external and internal forces.
In addition to years of study and experimentation, Robert needs a further three things: no scruples, an accomplice and a human guinea pig. Scruples are not a problem—they weren’t part of his character. Marilia (Marisa Paredes), the woman who looked after him from the day he was born, is his most faithful accomplice. And as for the human guinea pig…. Over the course of each year dozens of young people of both sexes disappear from their homes, usually of their own will. One of them will end up sharing the splendid mansion, El Cigarral, with Robert and Marilia—as a prisoner. This dark, twisted drama from Pedro Almodóvar (Volver, Bad Education, Talk to Her) is based on Thierry Jonquet’s novel Tarantula. (Fully subtitled)
