On September 1st, previously free public parking underneath the Pink Line was leased out by the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) to SP Plus Parking who have begun to charge residents $75 a month to park. In October many resident’s cars began to be towed and ticketed since this change.
Communication has been horrible from both Alderman Danny Solis’ office as well as from the CTA. Residents also feel that the implementation has been done poorly and that residents had no input on the changes beforehand. This burdensome expense benefiting a Private Parking Company comes at a time of extra cost for residents via higher property, sewer and water taxes.
Enough Is Enough!
Members of the 25th Ward Independent Political Organization (IPO) are hosting a meeting to discuss this issue with concerned residents. At this meeting we will develop a plan and set demands with those affected to hold both Alderman Danny Solis and the CTA accountable for this burdensome change that lowers the quality of life for all in the neighborhood. All affected residents are highly encouraged to attend this important meeting!
