NeverForget92 :The 25th Anniversary

April 17 @ 5:30 pm - April 20 @ 6:30 pm

In 1992 University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign students organized for the equitable treatment of Latinx students on this campus. These students were met with violent opposition by the University and the Police were called in with riot gear. After the police forcefully removed these students the University recieved negative media attention nationwide. The negative media pressure resulted in the relocation of La Casa cultural Latina to the former home of the University President.

The historical and educational significance of the 1992 protest cannot be understated. The actions of these students have altered our University’s curriculum and positively influenced the academic experience for Latinx students for years to come. Our goal is to educate the student body on the importance of these student’s sacrifices and honor the history of La Casa Cultural Latina and the Latina/Latino Studies Department.
