Pilsen Outpost is pleased to announce the opening of Frequency, a solo exhibition of new, mixed media works on paper and illustrations exploring universal energy by Chicago-based street-artist and muralist Miguel Del Real.
On view from May 6 – May 29, 2016.
Del Real will also be unveiling a special edition T-shirt and zine for this exhibit. This is the artist’s first solo exhibition with Pilsen Outpost.
Frequency will feature new studio work that explores the artist’s thoughts on universal energy as experienced through his use of conceptual line work, infused with colorful accents and abstract original designs influenced by pre-columbian indigenous patterns, calligraphic and urban art.
In Del Real’s artist statement he says, “Frequency is the rate at which something is repeated over a period of time as seen in patterns or repetition of actions toward mastery. Everything in life has its own frequency ⎯ from light and sound waves to the unseen metaphysical energy all around.”
Del Real’s elegant and complex use of line, movement, pattern, and distinct iteration are nothing short in achieving a beautiful mastery in of itself, combined with his proficiency over such varied mediums from sumi ink, aerosol, acrylic paint, drawing and fine art technique bring his work full circle.
Miguel Del Real was born in 1985 in Chicago. He received his BFA in printmaking from Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago. Active in the Chicago urban art scene and known for his large scale, public murals, including recent, art projects in New York and Oaxaca, Mexico. Del Real currently works as an art teacher in Chicago in community arts programs and schools.
