Featuring musical accompaniment by Wynton Marsalis, renowned pianist Cecile Licad and an all-star jazz ensemble, LOUIS, a silent film directed by Dan Pritzker and starring Jackie Earle Haley, Shanti Lowry and Anthony Coleman, will have its world premiere here at Symphony Center. The score includes Wynton Marsalis compositions and the music of 19th century American composer L.M. Gottschalk performed by Cecile Licad.
LOUIS is a film homage to Louis Armstrong, Charlie Chaplin and the birth of the great American art form, jazz. Set in 1907 New Orleans and shot in the style of silent film by Academy Award®-winning cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond, LOUIS tells the moving story of a young boy born into poverty who dreams of playing the trumpet.
