Japan and Nature: Spirits of the Seasons

Organized around universal aspects of childhood—play, school, family, and holidays—Japan and Nature will bring a taste of Asian culture to the Chicagoland area. Explore traditional Japanese activities throughout the four seasons:

Throughout the different seasons visitors will be able to:

Autumn

· Dress in festival garments to celebrate the fall rice harvest

· Play festival drums

Winter

· Learn to use chopsticks while role playing a family meal

· Play Fukuwarai by closing your eyes and using magnets to make a silly face

Spring

· Practice calligraphy by writing nature kanji

· Make Teru Teru Bozu dolls that look like ghosts to ward off rain

Summer

· Search for insects hidden throughout the area and make rubbings of the bugs

· Catch a fish and release it back into the lake
