Donations Welcomed

Jam for Change, a fundraiser event hosted by the Frijoleras Book Club. This cultural event will feature two live bands, art and poetry reading.

Fandanguero is a group of Chicago natives who create a modern interpretation of son jaracho, a 250-year-old genre of music from Veracruz, Mexico. Mixing son jarocho with modern elements such as rock, Fandanguero makes audience participation a huge part of their shows.

Pure Remedy joined forces during the summer of 2008 to create progressive, alternative and experimental music. They originally started out as a Spanish rock band. Today, they mirror a similar trend in Latin America’s rock en español scene: the embracing of more Anglo sounds and English lyrics.

Sam Kirk was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago. Kirk has done over 20 exhibits, started a clothing line with 200+ pieces of merchandise sold within its first two years, redesigned 5 different homes and countless pro-bono projects. She is currently working on her first sculpture series, which will travel to 6 cities including Mexico City in 2011. Clothing merchandise will be available for purchase at the event.

Proyecto Latina is a multi-media project that amplifies the success and impact of Latinas in our community. Their initiatives include a reading series and a website that allows them to create a culture of self-empowerment. They spotlight emerging and established Latina talent, create a safe space in under served communities, and provide a virtual platform to chronicle stories, share resources and start dialogue.

Please help support this event. The money we raise will help support a child’s education at Immaculate Conception School.
