INCIVILIZADO, a solo exhibition of original illustrations and paintings by Mexican born, Minneapolis based artist Rodrigo Oñate, (ROCO).
Pilsen Outpost is excited to feature ROCO in his first solo exhibition in the United States. He brings brilliantly hued mixed media paintings and illustrations with a combination of textures, shapes and characters on paper and canvas that evoke traditional and cultural graphics of Mexican folk and urban contemporary street art.
It is through this synthesis and personal visual experiences that he has created a body of work that speaks to his concerns for humanity’s blatant disregard for nature, and indigenous communities. The idea that humanity must learn from these societies that live in harmony with nature, instead of destroying them in the name of civilization.
Rodrigo Oñate, (Roco) born 1986 in Queretaro, Mexico currently lives and works in Minneapolis, Minnesota. A self-taught artist, he began his career as a graphic designer and painter in 2005. Influenced by the pop culture of the 80’s, comics, graffiti, Mexican culture and various artists such as Jose´ Cuevas, Frida Kahlo, Andy Warhol, Basquiat, Yoshito Monara and Gary Baseman among others.
