Glad Cloud is a monthly series that celebrates the rich landscape of Chicago musicians working with ambient music. Curated by Benjamin Mjolsness, the series provides an opportunity for ambient artists to color the air, walls, and liquids of the Whistler in a deliberately non-intrusive manner. Visitors can enjoy their cocktails and companions while the music envelops the room around them.
Frequent collaborators Sam Wagster and Ben Boye headline this month’s installment of Glad Cloud. They’ll be debuting their new project, COLLECTION, which will feature Boye on auto-harp and bass pedals and Wagster on pedal steel guitar. Opener Cinchel is a Chicago-based musician working with guitar, effects and laptop to create abstract, ambient music that is both minimal and dense. He is influenced by the compositions of Glen Branca and Rhys Chatham and the production work of Tim Hecker, Fennesz and Ben Frost. “I like the beauty that is an ensemble of guitars, where the whole ensemble is a large instrument that no longer sounds like a guitar.”
