Free Screening to Protest the Imprisonment of Iranian Filmmakers

January 16, 2011 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free

A couple of weeks ago the Iranian director Jafar Panahi received a harsh sentence from the Iranian judiciary for nothing more than expressing his opinions either verbally or through his movies. The sentence has been universally condemned by global cinema’s luminaries such as Francis Ford Coppola,Steven Spielberg and Pedro Alomdovar and several protests have occurred in various corners of the earth.

Here in Chicago, Milos Stehlik of Facets Multimedia has organized a protest event this for Sunday Jan 16,1 PM. It will include a screening of his provocative (some even called it “Feminist”) movie, The Circle which won the top prize at the 2000 Venice Film Festival. There will be a post screening panel that will include Kaveh Ehsani of DePaul University and Jerome McDonnell of WBEZ.
