Festival del Bolero taking place May 31st at Copernicus Center featuring an encore performance by bolero legends Trío Los Panchos. Featuring Los Panchos & Danny Rivera with Nelson Gonzalez. This concert will bring together people of all ages to enjoy an evening of romantic songs from Latin America’s Golden Age of Music.
Trio Los Panchos is celebrating 70 years of providing Latino and non-Latino couples alike with the soundtrack for their love lives. The internationally-famed bolero trio was formed in New York in 1944 by Mexicans Alfredo Gil and Chucho Navarro and Puerto Rican Hernando Avilés. The trio’s original format would set the standard for the genre of three voices and three guitars, including the Mexican requinto guitar, created by founding member Alfredo Gil.
Danny Rivera is known as the “the national voice of Puerto Rico,” but his magnificent, passionate way of singing is known and loved all over the Spanish-speaking world. Over the course of a career that reaches its fiftieth year in 2015, he’s recorded over seventy albums and is the only Puerto Rican performer to star at Carnegie Hall in four different decades (1979, 1989, 1999, 2010).
