The event presents the artists performing in a trailer that is transformed into a mythical setting and serves as a stage for Eiko & Koma’s signature meditative choreography. The trailer is displayed in the exhibition gallery when not activated. The exhibition and related programs are curated by MCA Director of Performance Programs, Peter Taub, with Eiko & Koma.
Born and raised in Japan, Eiko & Koma create works informed by the politics and global cultural movements of the 1960s as well as the democratic and community aspects of life in America (the couple’s home since 1976). The MCA has a long-standing relationship with Eiko & Koma, and Time is not Even, Space is not Empty marks the third presentation of their work. The artists performed Memory in 1997 and Cambodian Stories in 2006.
