Ana and Lucho’s love story started when they were two little kids in 1970s Peru but it wouldn’t blossom until the violent 80s, when Sendero Luminoso’s attacks and the military’s response sent the country into a bloody spiral. For both teens and their best friends, the only way to survive is by imagining what it would be like to live in a distant, foreign land, a thought that some put into action as they migrate to escape the violence. Díaz Costa’s deeply personal portrait of this era stands as a metaphor for the loss of innocence.
