Elastic Arts and ChicagoMusic.org present the next concert of “Intersections: Jazz- Its Roots and Shoots- from Afro-Latin to Avant-Garde.” Featured are the Chicago Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble and Musicians from the AACM.
CALJE (The Chicago Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble) was formed in efforts to fuse the musical treasures of Afro-Latin American music and Jazz as well as musicians from Chicago’s diverse Latin and Jazz community. With a global sound and ensemble, CALJE has played in some of the finest performance halls and highlights many of Chicago’s luminaries. Musicians in this band have had the opportunity to share the stage with artist such as, Ella Fitzgerald, Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Chick Corea, The Temptations, Paquito D’Rivera, and Danilo Perez, among others.
Jazz- Its Roots and Shoots will feature AACM musicians who perform across genres including R&B, Blues, and other danceable music. The second set features CALJE playing Afro-Latin jazz showcasing familiar Latin dance beats. There is plenty of space for dancing in an open air setting. The show will take place on a traveling stage called the Culture Coach as part of its Chicago residency in Logan Square and Humboldt Park.
