Celebrate Clark Street World Music Festival

We love summer in Chicago most especially because of all the exciting outdoor music festivals that take place across the city and this weekend is no exception. The 9th annual Celebrate Clark Street World Music Festival takes over Rogers Park this weekend and the lineup, as usual, is extraordinary! Curated by world music expert, Sound Culture, check out the complete list of activities below. In the meantime, we’ve included short bios on some of the artists we’re most looking forward to seeing. تعليم لعبة البوكر

Rafi eL

Israeli born Rafi eL is a multi-cultural music hodgepodge. Raised by Argentine-Jewish parents in Los Angeles, he was immersed in the sights and sounds he heard at home, as well as the sounds that surrounded his city, which included tropicalia, cumbia and hip hop. A trip to Argentina cemented his need to dig deeper, searching for himself through his roots and Andean sounds quickly captured his attention.

Teaming up later with the New York’s Dutty Artz, Rafi eL began to release a series of songs showcasing his unique take on music which is a mixture of hard-hitting electronic fused with acoustic folk instruments. It’s a surprisingly eclectic mix of multiple genres that also feature tropical global bass rhythms.

Dos Santos: Anti-Beat Orquesta

Get ready to dance along to this Chicago band’s entire set. Dos Santos: Anti-Beat Orquesta is formed by local musicians presenting traditional pan-Latin American cumbia and chicha with an electrifying dose of rock. Although they haven’t been together long, their talent has quickly garnered the attention of the media and established a fervent fan base. They are currently working on releasing their first vinyl edition, which is being produced by Latin vintage collective, (((SONORAMA))).

Dos Santos headlines the Saturday evening lineup at the Estes Avenue stage.

Ceci Bastida

Emerging from the surrealness of border town Tijuana comes forth female powerhouse, Ceci Bastida. She began her career early on as back-up vocalist to Julieta Venegas in the 90s punk-ska band Tijuana No! and later released Veo La Marea as her debut as solo artist.

Bastida is currently in promotion of her new album, La Edad de la Violencia. Being deeply affected by the troubling signs of the times, especially the violence affecting our youth in schools, she creatively turned the negativity into positivity and hope in the form of synth-pop melodies. She’ll be part of the upcoming Supersonico Festin California this fall. Check out her full profile by The Ponderers.
